Wallpapers for Syria
I didn't have any money
Being confronted with the refugee crisis caused by the conflict in Syria, I found myself asking how I could contribute in a meaningful way even though I had no money. What could I do? Then I stumbled upon the power of social media to gather people for a cause. Rather than use the platform for my photography, I began to ask my small number of followers to donate money in exchange for prints of my work that I ordered for free from Parabo Press. As days went by friends and followers donated and my prints were sent all over the US. In the following days, I was contacted on Instagram by Maaria, who lived in London and who had seen my post. Together with photographers all over the world, nine in total from eight different countries, we made our photos available as smart phone wallpaper for people to download all over the world in exchange for helping Syrian refugees.
It’s using social media to move beyond ourselves and focus on how we can use our talents to serve others.
